Pedodontics (pediatric dentistry) is the department where dental treatments are performed for children between the ages of 0-12. Deciduous teeth usually begin to erupt 6 months after birth, and the eruption of all primary teeth is completed by the age of 2.5. Primary teeth have nutritional, speech, aesthetic and placeholder functions for permanent teeth. The structure of primary teeth is different from permanent teeth, so they are more prone to decay. If cavities in milk teeth are not treated, they can become inflamed and affect the permanent tooth underneath. Early extraction of primary teeth can cause space narrowing in the jaw, and in this case, permanent teeth may not find a place to erupt, and children may need orthodontic treatment.
